Nigerian Tems, a female singer-songwriter, is now referred to as “The Queen of Afrobeats.”
With her several honors, the Essence crooner helped change the BET Awards and the Nigerian music scene. At the 2022 BET Awards, she took home not one, but two prizes. In the category of “Best International Act,” she triumphed against Fireboy DML, who was also nominated.
Tems received her second prize when Wizkid’s Essence, which included Tems and Justin Bieber, won an award for “Best Collaboration.” The singer was asked to take the stage to accept the trophy in the place of Wizkid, who is now attending the ohmymusicfest in Rotterdam.
Tems has now joined Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Davido as the first female afrobeat mainstream artist to win the Best international act category at a BET Award.
